Turgovishte Orphanage
We received a request for assistance at the Turgovishte Center for financial assistance; they are in desperate need of a new boiler; there are currently 110 children in care and they have no ability to produce hot water/heat as the season will change back to winter. Also, the glazing on the windows is gone and the heat, when available, will not stay in the building. As a final "personal request" we as an agency would like to provide some additional funding for the purchase of playground equipment as currently, the children only have a mud lot. To date, we have raised approximately $2000.00 of the needed $8000.00. One of our little ones who came home from this orphanage will be visiting in August to deliver this donation in person with his mom and dad. He is quite the ambassador and is very passionate about his desire to help the place "where I was loved first".

The Turgovishte project came to completion in August of 2007; our Program Coordinator, Kay Montes, her husband and two sons traveled to Bulgaria to deliver the funding to replace the boiler which was accomplished during their visit. The orphanage had been without a reliable heating system for well over a year. As a result of the new boiler not only will there be heat but the children will be able to hot water for bathing again. Along with that, there was enough money to replace the windows and doors, floors and ceiling in an unused wing of the orphanage. We are sharing pictures of the improvements here; all work was completed at the end of October 2007. The playground remains as our next goal for improvement; we were able to do some basic safely and paint repair but there remains much to do to allow the children to really use their outside play area.
