                          Help for Andrey

                          Picture
Below is an overview of Andrey's journey over the past 12 months in the USA. We brought this wonderful young man from an orphanage to a live with a host family while undergoing facial reconstruction. At this time, no family has stepped forward to adopt Andrey and he has now returned to his country of birth. We share here a new photo of this amazing young man! From his host family........
"Well, here is Andrey! I can't give you proper words to describe all that we are feeling: thank you, miracle, joy, overwhelmed, tears, and a mixture of other emotions are running through our minds. Andrey is so happy with his surgeries. We leave to take him back to his orphanage on October 22nd. So many amazing things have happened in his life! Andrey can't wait to see his friends, yet he is sad to leave, as you can imagine.  Andrey has made miraculous progress in every area of his life. We thank you all for the endless love, support and prayers on behalf of Andrey!"

2007-2008 Primary Project : Help for Andrey

UPDATE! Andrey is here in the USA!

January 9, 2008: Andrey's first surgery has been postponed until Feb. 21st due to his physician being ill: this is a good thing in that it allows more time for Andrey to gain weight and better adjust to life in the US. He was identified as having a heart murmur: it was checked this morning by a cardiologist and that following the facial surgeries the hole in his upper heart chamber will also be repaired. Andrey continues to amaze all that meet him with his smile and courage! The first reconstruction will be the most challenging and his doctors are all very positive that much can and will be accomplished! Photos to be added here soon! Thank you for all of your support and prayers for this young man!

Our deepest gratitude goes to all of those who responded quickly to allow this young boy to come to the US with almost no "get ready" time! Our team in the country of Andrey's birth made all of the wheels move quickly to allow both Andrey and his escort to have the needed documents to travel; no easy accomplishment. He was able to travel to the US with the family with whom he will be staying in Michigan and we are grateful for their initiative to make this possible for Andrey. The tickets required to allow for travel were quite expensive due to the short notice and it being the holidays: our gratitude to all those who have donated. As of December 31, 2007, we are happy to share that the cost of the tickets have been covered 100%! Many thanks to the very generous donations in support of this young boy! We may at a later date ask for further help as we have been notified by the in country officials that they will require a visit by someone from his country of birth to come to the US to check on his status. As it is anticipated that he will need to remain in the US for up to a year, this is certainly understandable on their part. We will keep you posted as further plans develop.

We will keep an update of Andrey's progress as he completes the medical steps required to allow his face to be reconstructed along with how he is doing adjusting to life in the US. Again, confidentiality will be very high to support his privacy during this transitional time and we are grateful for your understanding. It is a priority for our agency to start to find "his family" so that eventually he can be adopted and come to the US as someone's cherished son. Please let us know if this might be your family: you may email: kay@toladopt.org if you would like further details about adopting this young boy.

....when asked,"does your child have special needs?", my husband replied, "Yes, he's special and we need him".  Author unknown

This young boy will turn 14 on January 31st, 2008. He currently lives in an orphanage in Eastern Europe where there is little discrimination between a "medical need" and a "mental need"; he was relinquished at birth due to his physical needs. He is described as "a good boy who plays a great game of soccer". For obvious reasons, he has had a difficult childhood and has often been made fun of and excluded from "the group". Several of our staff and some adoptive families have all visited this child during their time in the country and it has been noticed that his confidence is growing and his shyness is diminishing. He asked a visiting family several months ago "have you found a doctor to help me"? We are pleased to share that indeed, at this time, a team of very generous facial reconstruction physicians have donated their services and Andrey will be coming to the USA very shortly. All surgery costs are being covered by the hospital and physicians; it is estimated that he will need to remain in the US for six months and under go a series of invasive surgeries with the goal of rebuilding his face, mouth and nose.  A generous host family has stepped forward and Andrey will be staying in their home; our current need: Andrey must travel with a escort and both will need plane fare to come to the US to allow Andrey to have this life transforming surgery. If any one is inclined and able to assist us in providing his (and his escort's) airline ticket cost, please contact us at the TOL office or mail your tax deductible donation to TOL, 5816 Powell SE , Ste. A, Portland, Oregon 97202ATTENTION: PROJECT ANDREY.  Secondly, we are also hoping to have an adoptive family for this young boy. He will need the love and support of a family as he comes to "know" himself and grow to be the young man he can be. All laws of adoption must be followed by country laws and the prospective family will need to place documents through TOL and then travel to spend time with him in his country of birth, complete the legal process in the country and then bring him home again to the US. Please visit Andrey on our photo listing; for reasons of confidentiality, his picture is pass word protected but you can email us at  kay@toladopt.org to obtain this password. Please, request not request "out of curiosity" but only if you feel able to help this young boy in some way. Thank you in advance for your care and generous gifts.
